I normally start catching around March but normally only once the temperatures are into low double figures. In spring I usually get most of my Tench on Casters but Breadflake and small lively Redworm are good baits too. In the early spring I use fairly light lines of around 4lb with 3lb hooklengths and size 14 or 16 hooks on the float over gravel beds close in; but as the season progresses and the lilly beds start pushing through the surface and I start catching larger Tench then I move on to 6lb line and larger hooks and start using Pellets & mini boilees and try to catch the larger Tench out against the distant lilly beds in the middle of the lake and the overhanging bushes on the islands where there is no bankside disturbance. But meanwhile while it is still fairly cold; I am still busy getting my Tench gear ready and spooling up my reels. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
