Re: Ground bait or particles

Groundbait provides a 'clouded' area in the water, that provokes a piscine interest as being something to investigate. However, cloud groundbait, of itself, does not provide anything of substance to hold a fish. Therefore, to hold fish in your swim, something needs to be added to the groundbait.Some anglers prefer to add a few samples of hook bait, others prefer a mixture of hemp, crushed pellets and other particles. Each has his own recipe.
The important points are:
Use the pond water to mix your groundbait.
Use groundbait of the same colour as the hook bait ( approx).
Feed in a diamond pattern around your hook and fish the point of the diamond nearest to you.
Try using a flavour, so if you are using halibut pellets as bait, try a dash of halibut juice in the groundbait.etc.
Groundbait the swim, initially, and then every 10min until the fish start feeding.
Feed a little and often, once the fish start feeding. You are trying to entice the fish NOT stuff them with food!
Walnut size nuggets of groundbait are best.

If you are not catching after half an hour, start asking questions;
Am I over feeding?
Have I frightened the fish away( clumping of feet, tackle boxes etc)
Is my terminal tackle set up correctly to register a bite( this question is not as daft as it seems)

and slow up the rate of feed.

Re: Ground bait or particles

I have had most success with Particles like Corn, casters and/or broken or small Pellets,
or groundbaits containing mollasses or bloodmeal and pieces of sweetcorn, small soft pellets and soft flakey crumb.
NB: not the soft cloudy groundbaits with no body.
