| Re: best rod and reel set up for tench? Hi In most places where I fish for tench, that is fine, but they do contain quite a few carp, also tench are a very powerful fish. I tend to use small baits for tench, and avoid boilies. My normal set up for tench is an avon rod, 1 1.5lb or 1 1.75tc rod. 10lb line and an 8lb braided hooklink. Bait is often a small peice of bacon grill and I tend to use a float. In open swims I use a 'pin with 8lb mainline and a 6lb braided hooklink. Often witha lift float. Some mock, but when I feel like it a cane rod is great. Tightlines __________________ Ignore the margins at your peril |

| Re: best rod and reel set up for tench? Far too heavy for me...I tend ot use a decent 1lb TC match rod and 4lb max line with size 10 or 12 hook links......landed a 7lb 4 oz the other day pretty comfortably with that set up....great sport. |

If I am fishing a lilly strewn swim were I regularly need to bully them away from the lillies and other snags then I prefer to use my 13ft MKIV Drennan Tench float rod together with 6lb/7lb line, especially if the Tench are known to run to a decent size. If I am fishing at any distance amongst far lilly beds or against distant root strewn islands where I need to bully them away from distant snags then I would use my 12ft Drennan Specialist Rod or my 12ft Greys Barbel rod together with line of around 8lb and sometimes even heavier. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
