| Been away for a while as have had absolutely no chance to get my rods out at all. So i was very excited when the missus decided to do an extra night shift leaving me looking at a lonely night in. Luckily dad was free and a night session was quickly planned. Having caught a single tench last year, and a small one at that, we thought we should concentrate our efforts on these gorgeous fish. We decided to fish the backwater of Island Pond at Rackerhayes just because it has done well for us in th past. So arriving about 7pm we lugged our gear round to the swim and set our pod up. I decided to fish bread on a 14 hook with a running lead set up, fishing to the left just off a overhanging tree. So i cast out then realised, doh, we had forgotten the catapult. So a quick drive home and i recast plus a healthy smattering of Source pellets. Getting the bivvy up my alarm goes mad and the spool starts going crazy. I strike and off goes a fish like a rocket trying to get into the bowels of the tree. Applying all the pressure iv got i finally manage to turn him and play him out in the open, much to my dads relief and slip the net under an absolutely pristine Rackerhayes tench, weighing in at a lovely 7lbs. We had nothing else all night and it was absolutely freezing but well worth it for my first glance at a 2010 tench! With a pic hopefully to follow. __________________ Glory glory Bolton Wanderers! |
