MDWal is on a distinguished road
Hatchet Pond

This lake never seems to get a mention on any tench forums, but is the best tench lake I've ever fished. I got to fish it the 1st day of the season and a couple of days after(work commitments), had 3 tench 6 3/4, 8 3/4 and 9 1/2, with 7 bream between 9 3/4 and 12 3/4. The tench go 14lb+, bream go a bit bigger, plenty of them too. Anyone else fished this place?

I'll also be hitting Linbrook this year when the carp have spawned.

These are 2 places that rarely get mentioned anywhere, although I do know the Tenchfishers group get a week at Linbrook every year with fish to the same sort of size as Hatchet.

Re: Hatchet Pond

My parents used to live just round the corner from Hatchet Pond in the New Forest next to Beaulieu.

I fished it a couple of times back in the 1990s and caught nice Tench, Bream and Carp from there, and there were never more than 6 to ten other anglers around it.

I remember reading an article in the Coarse Fisherman magazine about the huge Bream and Tench that the author caught there back in the 80s/90s.

Those where exceptionally good Fish you caught there MDWal, it looks like it is back on form again.
I think Ill take my rods the next time I am in the area.
