Re: Blenheim tench. Thanks 'excarper'. I agree that's the traditional 'must have' bait for tench. My main concern at Blenheim is the depth. It can be 8 to 10 feet even in the margins & up to 20 feet further out. Assuming the tench are going to be feeding on the bottom, I was considering using a Polaris sliding float but I've never tried that from a boat. I'm just not sure whether sensitivity can be maintain because of boat movement. Although I've been a couple of times before and fished with conventional float set up, at the greater depths it's all a bit awkward. I guess it's going to be 'chuck it and chance it' again. Still, that what fishing is all about. The more I fish, the less I know.

Re: Blenheim tench. Breadflake, Redworm, sweetcorn, Casters & red maggots are all normally a safe bet. You can always use a sliding float but I would think that most of the feeding Tench would probably be in slightly shallower water around 10ft or less where the water gets warmed a little from the sun, while feeding on whatever insect larvae they can find etc. This early in the year 20ft deep water usually tends to be a bit barren in comparison especially if the sun doesnt penetrate all the way to the bottom. Anyway good luck & tight lines. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now)

Re: Blenheim tench. fish the areas where the depth starts dropping off. From memory its almost like a marginal shelf the way it falls away. A polaris will be fine or as the bear says a powergum stop knot and a slider. (great way to catch bream in deep water too) Envious of you for having such a dilemma! Say hi to winston c for me.
