tench fishing in winter help!!!!!

does anyone have tips on bait or rigs for winter tench fishing and should i use quivertips or float

Never really fished for tench in winter,but I reckon a feeder might work unless you lie on with the float.

In old angling folklore, tench burrowed down into the mud/silt in lake beds and did not re-appear til summer time.
I have caught them in the colds of winter, but they are less prone to feeding.
I would use similar baits that you use in summertime, but scale down, esp on the amount of feed you put in.
Is there a'mooving water' venue near you that holds tench? as fish in slow oving rivers/canals will need to feed more than their cousins in still waters.

Sorry, just realised I did not answe all of your question.
I wuld go for a quivertip, as winter winds might make sensative float fishing difficult. In many cases I would let the weather dictate what method to use.
I did once see a 6.8.0 tench come out in the winter. It was caught up in the water, about 3-4 feet deep in water around 8 feet deep.
Just goes to show, that the tench like all fish can suprise, and in most cases have not read the angling text books.

I also would use the quiver tip i seem to have a lot of success with sweetcorn in the many different flavors they come in. In the winter they do bite but prepare not only to catch tench your prob have a good mixture. good luck anyway

i have never caught a tench and i really want to but i cant wait until spring/summer so thats why im going in winter. by the way has anyone fished the harting coome lake or staunton country park lake

Given how mild it is I reckon you still have a chance anyway. Find a sheltered pond or lake with a gravel as well as a mud bottom and fish in deeper water.

Tench tend to get bullied by carp too so a water with a low density of carp might be worth a look. They can quite happlily get on with a few bream too so check these out. Hampshire is a lot warmer too, than the rest of the UK so you still stand a chance. have you got a tackle shop anywhere near ?
