New to the world of tench fishing - please help!

Firstly hello everyone, i'm new to these forums.

Been fishing on and off for the last 15 or so years, but a combination of work and university has limited my visits to the bank to only three or four a season. Decided this year to try and target early summer/late spring tench, and therefore heading to Elphicks fishery in Kent on Friday.

Planning on Fishing the Sandwich lake a couple of rod lengths out on the lift method, fishing over hemp/groundbait with a few different hook baits including corn, worm and pellet.

Does this sound a sensible approach at this time of year? I'm not a feeder fishing fan, prefer to "keep active" hence my preference for float fishing. Has anyone fished the Sandwich lake at this time of year? Might I be better on Kettle lake, though i'm aware there is is a lot of carp in that water.

All info gratefully recieved.

Tight Lines.

Hi Anything_but_Carp!
Welcome to the forum.
I'm afraid I don't fish in your area so can't give you any info re- Tench in your lakes etc. but it sounds like a good approach. If I wasn't sure of the best baits on a lake then I would be tempted to try either smallish redworms, breadflake, sweetcorn or fresh caster or maybe try a small predrilled crab or Hallibut pellet on a short hair and a size 14 hook. over a groundbait which contains either sweet mollases or dried ox blood.

But whatever you decide good luck and tight lines.

WHEN fishing the lift I have had more sucess not using any shot, but using a swivel ring, it like a swivel with a ring on it, about 4" from the hook use heavy metal on the swivel bit only put the metal on the swivel tie your hook link to the ring, it takes a bit longer to alter the length of your hook link, works well for me.
