Re: More Tench anglers please!!!!!

Tench are my favourite spring & early summer fish and I especially love the early dawns after them.
This year I'm fishing a water that has quite a few low double figure Tench in it but I wont be too upset if I don't catch a double as I love catching them no matter how big they are, even 3lb'ers fight well on the right tackle (not Carp tackle).

I catch a lot,at certain times,pb is 10lb.4oz.beautiful fish and I find, through out the summer,a lot harder than Carp to catch.I seem to catch most of mine on sweet corn for some unknown reason. They put up a good fight too from my lake.

Re: More Tench anglers please!!!!!

Sadly this is true most good Tench waters at some point in their life have large amounts of Carp stocked and the poor old tench just cannot compete with them. I have had carp anglers come up to me and have a go at me just because i was using 1lb 8oz/1lb 12oz rods and 8/10/12lb line. At the end of day just like most other freshwater anglers i love catching fish but i do prefer tench. It does sadden me that some anglers do have the view that if its not a Carp then it just not worth fishing for and treat other fish differentially. There does need to be more angling mags with tench in or one just for tench anglers. However i do like to see the look on Carp anglers faces when they see me land 20lb+ carp on 1lb 8oz rods (tench gear)

Re: More Tench anglers please!!!!!

There are indeed many fine all-round anglers on this forum and most love to catch Tench. Carp free waters are hard to find but they are out there!

Last year, whilst chasing Crucians at Marsh Farm (that top secret venue ) I discovered it held a very decent head of excellent Tench. With no king carp in the lakes (perhaps 1 or 2), the Tench were great fun on the pole set up for Crucians. The Tenchfishers regularly organise visits there as well.

Soon be time to give them another crack!

Re: More Tench anglers please!!!!!

i had my 1st tench the other week, all 4lb10oz of it & was by far the best fish in terms of playing it. am still trying to catch more lol. overall, as a pleasure angler, i don't really mind what i catch though, it's just being out on the bank, relaxing & catching a few fish

Re: More Tench anglers please!!!!!

The only way your going to avoid the Carp is to pick a fishery that has only a few stocked. So commercial Carp fisheries are out. Some good Tench waters in Norfolk they just need finding. No matter what rig you use you are still going to get the odd carp. You could try heli-rigged maggot feeder, with three-four red maggots on the hook with one fake maggot but you may get small Roach/rudd as well as the odd carp you just need to keep at it and the Tench will come!! Check out two books full of good tips; A TIME FOR TENCH BY CHRIS TURNBULL AND FIRST CAST BY TERRY LAMPARD both good books loads of good tips on Tench.
