Why don't more clubs do this?

One of my clubs (Verulum AC) have specialist days for the members where they have a few of the clubs best specialists for a partilcular species fishing and answering questions on tackle, baits, location and fish behaviour and after the members get together for a bit of banter and a Barbeque with drinks and a raffle for some specialist tackle; the members try fishing in the places that they have been shown (which have been prebaited the night before); with the specialists walking round giving any advice that's needed.
They also have a day for Barbel on the Great Ouse at Felmersham where barbel up to 19lb have been caught last season, and a day for Carp at Moor Mill where the well known Carp 'Toadless' resides, and a Day for Tench also at Moor Mill where double figure Tench are regularly caught. Plus they are thinking of expanding it to cover even more species and venues next year. They also sometimes invite well known outside specialists in the relevant species.
The Tench day is on the 5th July and they are going to prebait several swims the night before for the anglers attending.
Each day is free except for a small nominal charge for food & drink. It is only open to members at present.

I think it's a really great idea and think that more clubs should do this kind of thing don't you? as it promotes a sort of family atmosphere in the club and gets the members talking, swapping Ideas and making friends with other anglers with similar likes and dislikes etc. and can only be good for the club in the long run.

It's a good idea. My local club (Wakefield AC) does something similar at their club water!

Sounds a cracking idea - clubs are all about meeting people and learning but alas many clubs just take the money and that your lot

Re: Why don't more clubs do this?

Recently i got elected as the Chairman of my local club, and this thread has given the answer i've been looking for for the club and the members.

Cheers
