whats the best methods for big tench

i fished on a big pond in blackburn last week trying to catch my first tench, so u can imagine my surprise when i caught 35 of them! The only problem was that they were all quite small apart from one which was about 4 or 5 pound i couldnt believe how hard it fought it took about 10 minute to land. anyway i just wondered if anyone could help me out with a few preffered methods of catching more of the bigger fish

Re: whats the best methods for big tench

If I'm targeting big tench I will go to the intended swim the night before and bait it up with hemp seed and sweetcorn with a few bloodworm pellets mix in and just for good measure a few chopped fresh muscles (if you can't get fresh muscles then prawns will do!).
The next morning I will be on the bank at first light watching for the bubbles that mean the fish are feeding! I will feed a little more of the ground bait and then fish a whole fresh muscle under a crystal waggler! Bigger baits mean bigger fish but you can only catch what is there. This works for me on my local water where the Tench go to around 8/10lb.

Re: whats the best methods for big tench

the best thing about this place is it used to be polluted as its next to a chemical factory so as a young lad growing up there was never any fish in the bottom lodge but now it is full of tench and apart from me and my mate ive never seen anyone else fish it so the place is always empty i think the fish must have got there from the top lodge flooding over after bad rain but as far as i know there only seems to be tench and perch in it. another wierd thing is although there is loads of tench in there you never see any bubbles or signs of the fish feeding maybe thats why no one else thinks there is fish in it but like i said before i had 35 tench out last sunday and lost a monster perch just before i netted it so i will happily fish there all by myself and let people tell me i am wasting my time. if only they checked my keepnet out. ha . anyway thanks for the advice lads and i will keep you posted on my results

Re: whats the best methods for big tench

you say it was polluted which gives the reason for all the tench. they are often the last ones left after pollution. where i fish there was a problem with water quality a few years back and now there tonnes of tench. one day i had around 50 out aswell ans about 10 bream a chub and loads of roach on sweetcorn and bread

Re: whats the best methods for big tench

You could try using feeder tactics with corn and worm cocktails, Tench seem to like cocktails and might be even worth useing cloured corn as well.
