Re: whats the best methods for big tench

I love tench fishing in the early summer. Most of the smaller ones I catch (1.5lb to 5lb) I catch quite close in against the bank or near close-in lilly beds, using breadflake, sweetcorn or smalllish lively redworms (not lobs or brandlings) If I am after bigger Tench between 6lb to 9lb with a chance of a 10lb'er I use active-8 pellets or Lamprey pellets supergued onto a short hair (or banded) ledgered tight against large distant lilly pads right out in the middle.
But every water is different, I know another water where Casters are the order of the day.
I find that on my water they seem to move away from the bank into deeper water once the sun comes up but move back into shallower water again in the evening.

Re: whats the best methods for big tench

I love Tench fishing, It was only last year I caut my first tench, a woping 6lp beauty, and have been catching them ever since, my biggest is 9lp I only go in the night for tench, I find its best to go just before it starts to go dark scater a bit of ground bait and some hemp, about 2ft away from the reads I only ever use magot as a bait for tench as I find it's much better than bread or lunchan meat.

Re: whats the best methods for big tench

Float leger, laying on, or straight leger wiil all take tench. Best baits, appart from boilies are lob worms, bread paste/ flake. A very good book to help is 'Tench' by Len Head. or the book by Jim Gibbinson. Hpe this helps. Tyke.

Re: whats the best methods for big tench

try fishin sweetcorn in the margins, bait the swim and leave it for about2 hours, best time is late afternoon, when the small tench have cleaned up the corn, fish a small 1/4 inch lump of luncheon meat, ripped off not cut up,the bigger tench love this, but remember you cant catch big tench,if there are no big tench ,so check out big tench waters, its well worth travelling,

this lodge wouldnt happen to be cockers lodges would it?
