It is quite a colourful fish that looks like it could belong to the Cichild family. They are a fairly recent addition to UK waters, found almost exclusively in the South of England. However they are slowly spreading North.
They average less than 1/2lb, but are renowned for there fighting spirit on light tackle.
The largest populations are found in the Great Lakes of Canada and North America.
Where you catch one you are likely to catch more.

They are one of my target fish for this year.

Confused of Hampshire here

Don't wish to be too much of a handicap to "Twiddler" (I am expecting her to provide the lions share of points!) but, do we both get points if we each catch the same species? i.e. 2 team points (or 3 with photos) if we both get lucky with the roach??

no its team points mate so roach only counts once on the list

, so if you have one person thats good at catching ruffe send her out to get points and other team member get the greyling etc

My task for this month is to try and locate one of these waters. I may or may not tell you where it is depending on how well you are doing in the species hunt
