Re: where to go fishing in plymouth

I think you can pay for a permit to fish in Mayflower marina off the pontoons. You say you've fished the local piers so I guess you've tried Mountbatten pier which I've been told is a good all round mark and I guess you've fished from the Hoe. There should be mullet around in the Barbican area but I'm not sure whether fishing is unrestricted in the area then there is the Tamar estuary which is reputedly good for flounder and cod which should both be making an appearnce in the next month or 2. I've seen something where large conger were being caught from the shore in Plymouth but not sure exactly where. Steve Devon who was a regular on here is from that area but hasn't been about for a few months and had his own website about fishing in the area.

Just ask any questions you have on here and there'll always be people who will offer their advice and experience. I'm fairly new to fishing and have learned loads on here.

Re: where to go fishing in plymouth

Hi, like you I,ve only had gar. But I was talking to a couple of guys fishing by the car park at Royal Corinthian Yacht Club and they had a few Mackerel. I hope to give it a go myself soon. Another chap told me he'd had Doggies and Wrasse off Mountbatten when night fishing. Hope this helps if you get any news of anywhere fishing well please let me know. It's been a bad year for me, why are decent fish hard to come by? Perhaps it,s just me!!!!!

Re: where to go fishing in plymouth

Hi ncnc, I used to live in Plymouth and fish there. You can get Conger straight off the hoe, by the Lions Den at night. Also Wrasse and mackerel from the same place. you'll get Mackerel and Bass from the rocks onto the beach at Bovisand, and the rocks out by Wembury produced great Wrasse, lots of Mackerel, and although I did not fish for them in those days, I bet there are some good Bass out there too. Be really careful with the swell, it can all appear calm and then suddenly a big swell comes in and wipes everything off the lower rocks.

Cant believe none of you have mentioned DEVIL'S POINT pier, you catch alot of different species there depending on tide, night or day and weather, plus time of year. Ive caught Bass, Small Ling, Mackerel, Pollock, Mullet, Codling, Gar, Dogfish, Wrasse, Black Bream, Whiting, Pouting, even had a odd ball with a Sea Trout once on a spinner from it and a few pain species like Goby's and Weaver. I also know u get Conger there as thats where Larks caught the record shore Conger, and Ray.
