Help needed regarding spinning

I am going on Holiday tommorrow to St audries Bay in Somerset. The site has its own private beach so I thought i would try my hand at beach fishing. Never done it before, but have been course fishing for years. I have a 2.5lb t/c carp rod which i think will do the job.I have just been down to my local tacke shop and bought some rigs, shockleader 35lb breaking strain. 3oz lead and some other bits and pieces including a sea reel ( I dont want to kill my carp reel). What i want to know is, I want to do some spinning but the weight of my spinners are light ( Pike/Perch spinners). How do you get distance? is it best to make up a rig with a 2oz lead to use to get distance and is it likely to spook the fish. The rigs I bought have a 5 small hook set up with plastic shinny bits on them. Are they OK for spinning or is it best to add bait like squid to the hook.
Any advise much appriciated
Thanks
Ian

Re: Help needed regarding spinning

I hate to say it, but it would be better to buy a few plugs or a dexter wedge. The small spinner will be successful if used for the right quarry like Mullet, Bass etc. Hook a Ragworm to the treble and you might have more luck. It still will not help you cast further though!
I used to use my abu Equilizer carp rod as a plugging rod, so you should be fine!
A Dexter Wedge is your best bet, because its heavy! 45g (ish)! Your quite likely to catch Bass, Mackerel, Scad, or Pollack!
I would'nt add weight to them unless it's deep! Bottom fishing is fun on a light rod!!

Good Luck!

Re: Help needed regarding spinning

Yes It definatly would help, but watch for weed and rocks. Otherwise you will have high gear loss!!!
Always wipe you rod off with a damp ( freshwater ) cloth, It really does work!!!

Re: Help needed regarding spinning

It will be great to have the place to myself and i can fish day or night with only a 50 yds walk from the mobile home. I will let you know what i catch if anything. 1 question When is the best time to fish, when the tide is coming in or when in or is it better to fish at low tide and walk out.

Re: Help needed regarding spinning

If you can fish on the flood, because the fish will be on the feed! You could have the same chance on the ebb! Always beware the incoming tide there and the mud is sticky and soft!!!
