| Re: Dawlish any good? HI GUYS. NOT WISHING TO GET INTO ANY SORT OF ARGUMENT OVER THE NAME, BUT THE CORRECT NAME FOR RED ROCK IS "LANGSTONE CLIFF" WHICH IS SHOWN ON OS MAPS (SOMETIMES ON SOME MAPS IT IS SHOWN AS LANGSTONE POINT. THE RED ROCK CAFE HAS ONLY BEEN THERE SINCE LATE EIGHTIES AND CALLED THAT BECAUSE HE COULDNOT GET LANGSTONE CLIFF ON THE SIDE OF THE TINY BUILDING. THE LANGSTONE CLIFF HOTEL IS STILL THERE AND THRIVING JUST BEHIND THE CAR PARK A SHORT DISTANCE FROM LANGSTONE CLIFF. THE HOTEL WHICH PHIL REFERS TO WAS THE ROCKSTONE HOTEL WHICH WAS DESTROYED BY FIRE AND A BLOCK OF FLATS BUILT ON THE SITE. THIS IS SITUATED FURTHER ROUND THE COAST TOWARDS DAWLISH, JUST BELOW THIS IS "BLACK BRIDGE" WHICH IS A POPULAR MARK PRODUCING GOOD SIZED BASS WHEN THE CONDITIONS ARE RIGHT. ![]() |

| Re: Dawlish any good? i used to fish this area a while ago, usualy about on the wall about 30yds short of the red rock cafe where the rocky sea bed gives way to sand. catching macky, gars n sml bass on the float and the odd wrasse, bottom fishing in daylight was slow, but at night i'd catch smalleyed ray, better bass , the inevitable doggies, pout, poor cod etc. casting about 80yds with squid, macky or rag baits, from the beach on other side of the rock same baits = same sort of species + gurnard. lost a few rigs to the rocky out crops just right of the stone groyne . CAUTION, if fishing from the groyne keep a good eye on the tide as you'll get cut off. __________________ 2008, sessions..24 total blanks..3 species,..20 its easier for a man to destroy the light within himself than to defeat the darkness all around him. |
