North Devon anglers ??

Anyone here..... helloooooooooo...... anyone interested in contacting me about going fishing, message me.
Mostly I fish the Bude breakwater.... though it has to be said that I dont have much luck.... I try flippin hard tho !
I am always up for trying new marks..... as long as it doesnt involve rock climbing or a massive cross country hike (knee injury prevents me walking miles).
So come on people................ lets go feed the fish.

Re: North Devon anglers ??

Used to go that way regularly for holidays but defected to South Devon last year. Have you tried fishing at Appledore / Instow? Never fished there myself but look like good winter marks for flounder and I read something recently that cod fishing is quite good but only with local crabs. Clovelly also looks quite good but not sure if you can fish off the breakwater and you have to pay to get down there. Always thought Bude had potential especially the breakwater thing although the swimming pool could be good and I reckon Boscastle must be good at least for mackie in the harbour but probably better on the outside of the wall.

Re: North Devon anglers ??

I think at the moment the only thing you will catch in Boscastle is a caravan !! unless they have cleared out all the mess now.
I fish Bude quite regularly, I'm 12 miles ish inland from Bude, the tidal swimming pool is good for Mullet..... but the kids complain in the summer months.... something about hooks getting in their way ?? But that aside, the breakwater is good for Bass, Mackerel, and Ray.... we cleaned up on Mackerel there last september.
Clovelly is...... (puts polite hat on)..... awkward, its probably the worse place to get to, very steep incline down to the harbour, there is a landrover service down, tho I would drive down unload and park up the top. But.... and here's the annoying bit.... its private, £15/year to fish from the harbour wall !
I am going to look at Bucks MIlls, which is similar, but a couple of miles closer to Bideford, and less steep to get to.
Westward Ho is ok..... heard of a 26lb Bass caught there last season, but parking is a pain there. Instow is horrible.... lots of sewage. Appledore is good, not fished there, but know lots who do.
Fremington Quay, located between Bideford and Barnstaple on the old coast road is very good, LOTS of flatties, plus Bass, its in the tidal estuary, and you get a good 15 foot of water at high tide, plus there is a cafe and toilets there, tho these close at 5 pm, but its less than 100 yrd walk from car park ....on level ground..... and.......its set up for fisherpersons.

Re: North Devon anglers ??

Have fished the Taw near Barnstaple with a few of the forum and most of us got a flattie or two and Smoothy says that it's good for bass in the summer. Those cars and caravans at Boscastle might make some good inshore wrecks so might be worth a try ;-). Didn't realise you had to pay at Clovelly, know what you mean about the walk though. Used to run back up racing the Mrs. in the Landrover but that was when I was young and foolish. Is the fishing there worth £15 per year? Heard it is good for bass there. Should also add, I've fished the "pier" at Ilfracombe and the doggies were everywhere but people were also catching conger at night off the far end but quite a trek for you to get there.
