Recent Cod boom

Has any one else notced there seems to be a shed load of cod about this winter?
I had never caught one before and during the cold snap all i was pulling in were cod and tiny whiting.
I'm nt complaining though

Re: Recent Cod boom

Been pulling them in off the harbours at Penzance and Newlyn. After dark, 6/0s seem to work the best. Caught on lug, Mackeral and Sandeel.

If you go down to Rinsey and go down the steps and head left up onto the first big ledge , as you look out to sea you have clean/ish sand to your right but some bloody huge ballans at your feet . Even the missus has had them over 4lb on rag ! some of the rock pools there are big enough to dive into and swim !

the ledges , or atleat the first one is really high up with plenty of flat space to set up - i've seen 4 anglers fish it with ease .. only downside unless you can find a route from the top of the hill is you have to go well before high water to cross the open bit of the bay first -its self explanatory when you see the area mate .. tiny whole shore crabs or half a rag will pick out the bigguns
