Bacon/bass

Hi all, seen a few things on the forum about bacon being a good bait for bass.just wanted to clarify, are we talking bacon,or rind?strips like mackerell,or lumps like peeler?.may sound daft to you experts, but never heard of it before (or chips/bread)so wanted to know more.many thanks Gwyn.

Re: Bacon/bass

Not sure what that was, but I wuold suggest you go to Sainsbury's and buy cooking bacon, instead of thin strips, sorry slices, they sell a great big chunk, for very little, you can then cut it with a knife or scissoers to suit you choice of hook/rig.

Re: Bacon/bass

Ive had a lot of bass on bacon, just normal raw bacon rashers, smoked or plain. Ive also had lots on bread flake aswell although they have all been taken in the dockyard.

Re: Bacon/bass

When our sub anchored off St. Kilda, we had a fishing session using bacon for bait and we caught plaice by the bucketful. The chef did us proud that day by cooking them up while we were still fishing. Can't get any fresher than that and they tasted gorgeous!

Re: Bacon/bass

I think bass will just eat whatever they get exposed to on a regular basis. If you are fishing somewhere on a quay where night clubbers are always chucking food in the water (usually with the wrapper too, nobs) then the fish will more than likely eat it. So harbours etc it will probably be great. In the open sea though I think they'd be more likely to take conventional bassy baits

Just a thought and as I am hardly a bass expert it might be worth experimenting with given that it's usually easier to buy bacon 24/7 than crab :)

Re: Bacon/bass

All these fish are after is an easy meal. Loads of fat in take aways so don't be too suprised. Just don't bother with that limp green sh@t they put in the SARLLARRRD or something. Vile stuff just eat the dead meat bit :) Someone on the Isle of Wight has caught a bass on chicken tikka last year down Cowes (though if Cowes week is on I doubt they go mad for them posh cucumber sandwichs :) ).

More tall stories than a hong kong car park maybe ?
