Re: help shock leaders

This might help ....

Its the knot I use - really strong & nicely streamlined if tied correctly ...

Re: help shock leaders

Dont use them tapered shockleaders on a spool - rubbish in my book.

Used to use them many years ago and although they can make a nice small knot they have little strength even with a good knot.

I started using grey greased weasel and have never changed from this.

Thats my 2 penny worth.

Re: help shock leaders

Agree with that - Greased weasel is best although I use clear ....

Mustad Shockleader is a good alternative ....

Talking Re: help shock leaders

I like the Orange Greased Weasel. Colours a matter of personal preference & whatever feels right. The important thing is to use a gurt big dollop of spit when tightening the knot so it beds down correctly.

Re: help shock leaders

Use 10lb breaking strain to 1oz of lead & 10lb for luck - usual is 60lb shock leader .... does not matter the strength of the mainline. 15lb is usual - increase to maybe 25lb for rough ground.

Don't forget the leader also acts as a rubbing leader and is much more resistant than the mainline when on the bottom - sand & rocks etc so not just for casting ...

Glad the albright is working for you !
