First Cast Curse - Report 23.11.06

With the weather looking really crap all day and the rain pouring down I wandered if it was worth fishing last night. Me and Shads had planned a night fish in the Bristol Channel in one of our spots so by the end of a long day we met up and thought sod it - give it a go !!

Got to the mark and had plenty of time to set up and get our gear ready - plenty of lug and squid - tide came in a bit so we launched our first baits of the night out into about 10 ft of water as the tide came in.

First five minutes and I see a few little bites and after pulling me line in I find a nice little plump codling on the line - across the mud it came and in the bag for tea !! Now that usually signifies a fruitless night if we catch in the first 10 minutes so we kept our fingers crossed that there would be a few others around !!

the weather deteriated but we stayed and enjoyed a great night.

Cut a long story short - we ended up with 7 fish - 6 plump codling - one extremely small pin whiting. Shads caught 4 cod - me I had 2 cod and the whi - ting !

Several came home for tea including taking a fresh cod round for my gran and several were returned for another day - even though they would have been big enough for tea. All in all an excellent session and a mark we will be using regulalry - easy to reach, comfortbale, and plenty of fishing space and the rare thing - a few fish !!
