Blue Anchor Friday 22/9/06

Afternoon All,

Despite planning to get in several sessions this week I didn't actually get out until 5am this morning.
I fished a couple of hours before and about an hour after high tide (7am ish)from a position on the wall near the Watchet end (second litter bin). The sea was quite rough with occasional waves hitting the wall so hard they sent spray several feet above the wall. Fortunately, the wind was from off the land so kept the spray on the beach side of the wall. It looked like I was the only one fishing which surprised me as an early morning walker said it was very busy last night.
I fished two rods with frozen black lug tipped with squid on pulley rigs.
I had a small conger (approx 3lb) and a Dogfish (approx 2lb) both on the rod which was the closer in of the two.
Sorry I can't report anything more exciting but I was very pleased with the session.
Tight lines to one and all.

L

Bit off subject but right name.

'Blue Anchor' Not the place but the name. Loadsa pubs in South Wales called the Blue Anchor. Never wondered where the name came from but in a TV programme a few weeks ago it was explained. The mud of the West Country coast. Apparently you could tell what ships/boats had visited there by the dried 'Blue' mud on the Anchor. With trade being brisk across the Channel there would have been quite a few 'Blue Anchors' in the South Wales harbours.
There endeth today's boring bit of trivia. True or false? I don't know but it sounds good.
