Conger Bonkers !

Chaps,

Just a brief report - me, the old ,man and Shads spent the hottest day afloat yesterday intending to target congers !

Spent the first hour and half trying and just about succeeding in getting some fresh makeral and then decided to head to a close in shore wreck, rather than go out further and find it covered with bass hunters !

After manouvering the boat over the wreck and ending up just a few hundred yards off it we started our quest for the bonkers. With baited feathers and live sandeel we also targhted other species. Within an hour we had several goos sized pollack, a scad, pouting and the obligatory snoop doggy dog !!

Brilliant fun and a right good collection of species meant the day ws going well. Then whilst we were busy trying to find some shade, the click click of my conmger rod and the give away movement of my line and lead !!

Within five minutes I had the rod and was struggling like mad as I tried to get the bugger up - to cut a long story short it was a good 15 minutes before we saw the beauuuty coming up throught the clear water - what a site. The old man put the gloves grabbed the trace and we took a few pictures and weighed - a healthy 22LB !

Whilst this fun had been going on the old mans reel had been clicking away and suprise suprise he struck into what seemed a bigger fish - another 20mins passed and to the side of the boat came a beauty of a monster - weighing in at a shade over 36Lb !!!! Just short our target 40Lb for the British Conger Club membership.

The rest of the day went in fits and starts with another four good congers breaking off on the wreck - the last one bending the old boys rod in half and would easily have surpassed the previous 36 pounder - a shame but then thats wreck fishing I guess.

End result of the day - 6 species and two decent conger for a n inshore wreck - two weeks time we are going a little further off shore for the bigger buggers !!!
