Everybody loves Raymond o !

Me and shads set our sights on our first ray for a couple of years last night and ventured to our usual summer haunt in Weston. Having spent the first hour trying to tempt a hound on crabs and loosing our gear we popped across the mark to the other side and fished the tide right in.

Boiling hot with the sun and with 4 rods out we waited and waited
Then whilst we were chatting away Shads missed a good bite on his bass rod -bugger. Still at least something was around. Then as his big rod nodded and went slack he wound into something very decent - a nice ray. Cutting a long story short he repeated the same fate as last year - got it within 50 yards of shore only for the trace and weight to get lodged and to loose the fish !

Gutted was not the word - still a few beers came to the rescue. Then in the last hour I had a dcenet bite in simular fashion - got caught on the way in - sent some line out and wound down again and bobs your uncle, fannys your aunt and there was the 4 / 5LB raymondo !! Bllody hell at last - great looking fish, beautiful eyes - quick photo and off she went for another day.

Finished the vening off praying for Shads to get his - then as if by magic - bang bang, and slack line. Disaster struck - a nice bite, the line taking off up the channel and the fish spits the bait on the strike and Shads is left fed up once again !

Still - it was great night, wicked weather and brilliant fun - we got one out of three or four rays that tried to oblige - were back there again in two weeks for Shads to land that bigun - his put up one hell of a fight so we reckon a good old size - fingers crossed for next time !

Re: Everybody loves Raymond o !

It is so frustrating when you get a fish on and it either spits the hook or you get snagged. Sounds like a nice session you had though. Well done Tommy
