Two night break in Start Bay - help needed

Hi all

Emma & I just won a two night B&B break at Sea Breeze on Start Bay. We must take it between 1 September & 20 December.

We intend to set off early on the first day and do some bait collecting (we'll be taking forks, rakes & push nets) and then using Sea Breeze as a base, we intend to spend the rest of the time fishing, fishing and fishing some more.

We'd really like to go as early in Setember as possible and mid-week is not a problem for either of us. So, we'd be grateful for any advice on best tides for early September, venues to fish (bream, bass, rays, flatties) and best bait collecting areas,

Sorry if it seems a big list but all help will be gratefully received.

Re: Two night break in Start Bay - help needed

Hi mate.

Start Bay consists of a long shingle bank interupted by a few fingers of rock seperating the beaches. These beaches are Slapton, Beesands, adn Hallsands.

If you plan to visit in September you can pick up Mackerel, Garfish, Doggies, Plaice, early Dabs and Whiting, School bass and Mullet.

You'd be better off bringing your bait with you or paying a visit to Devon Angling Centre at Chillington, just a five minute drive out of Slapton, towards Kingsbridge.

If you look at this site, www.slaptonsummerleague06.piczo.com you'll find our website where you'll be able to see whats being caught each month. It'll give you some idea of what to fish for, and maybe come and fish with us if our match coinsides with your holiday. It'd be nice to see you both.

The water is deep close in, and the tide is swift on a spring tide. Fish over low tide and for all of the rising tide. The ebb is not so good. Early evening into darkness, or at first light is best.

Hope this helps a little.

Regards.

Lee

Re: Two night break in Start Bay - help needed

Thanks for that Lee and although it looks like we'll miss your Summer League Matches, if any of you are fishing when we're around, we'd love to meet up. Our two night break has developed through a one week holiday to two weeks now. Although nothing is set in concrete, we should be starting out on Saturday 16 September, with our first stop somewhere around the Teignmouth area. We then intend to fish up to two venues per day/night, mixing dossing in the bivvie with staying at B&Bs. Once we have more info on where & when, I'll be back in touch by PM.

We had a reccie session this weekend:

fished Beesands on Friday night: Emma 1 x doggie; me = blank

Saturday, bait collecting (sandeel & yellowtail) in the Erme, hard work but bloody good fun.

Sunday: Fished Castle Cove, Dartmouth, from 12.00 noon until 9.00 pm, result - Me blank (let's get that over with), Emma 1 x pollack, 2 x wrasse, 1 x 7.5 lbs Bull Huss, caught in broad daylight, pics to follow. It's a tackle graveyeard but we're determined to fish it during a night session.
