| Hi fellas, Just a brief report on my fishing clubs exploits over the weekend. We had a boat out of Porlock for our club match. As usual it was and early start 4.00am. We all met up and drove down to Porlock for an out at 7.10am..! Baits for the day were peelers, squid, mackerel, rag worm and frozen Sand Eel. We almost did not make it out as the skipper left in until the last minute the night before to let us know we were sailing. The forecast did not look good as winds swept around to the east…not good for Porlock, but then the forecast advised they would go around again during the day. My position was at the stern again, so I could down tide as well as uptide. My first fish of the day was a doggie followed by another 5 more in succession. My fellow crewmates were going through what is termed as a “lean spell” they lean on me as I’m the one who is catching. Things like Christ not another Doggie! Change your bait as the last fish is still attached….you know the sort of things bored shipmates get up to!! The sun shone all day but the sea breeze got up in the afternoon and made life difficult as the boat wanted to go with the tide and the wind wouldn’t let it…..so it got quite rough to say the least. But hey that’s all part of life’s rich tapestry……! My best fish of the day was a Bull Huss of 12lb, she was in pup so she went back as quickly as possible so as not to harm the unborn Hussy. A surprise fish of the day was a beautiful Tub Gurnard of exactly 2lb not huge by Irish standards but a very rare sight for Porlock. Lots of fish came to the boat, Thornback Rays, Starry and Common Smoothound and Tope, plus an endless supply of doggies. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A great day out with some great blokes. I ended up in a good position in the match with 3 Bull Huss, 1 Starry Smoothound, 1 Tub Gurnard , 1 Tope and I lost count at the number of doggies. But as its done on points so I won’t know until the next meeting where I came. I can’t wait for the next one. |
