torbay 11/1/06

ok well to say my day started great would be a lie i went out last night far to many beers (it was the staff party) finally crawled into bed around 5am only to wake up again at 7 am to get ready for a training session at work ...ugh..

after a long day at work going thought my training and test papers i passed with 25 correct answers out of 25 questions!!! and top of the class this cheer me up and i was on a bit of a high albeit with a headache

so i ran off down to the tackle shop picked up some crab and rag (the tackle shops here seem to have no live lug for love nor money) but i managed to get some frozen black lug.

and off i went fishing.

well as some of you know i havent done much since i took ill last year so to say i was out of practice was an understatement and with that tight farmer next to me launching lead weights across the english channel i was starting to get a bit disheartened.

so after losing 2 rigs to snags and throwing a paddy and wondering off across the rocks to cool down (i never knew i had a temper until this point)
i eventually swore and kicked myself enough to make me cast resonably straight and at a distance i was happy with.

by this time kev had 2 rods in the water had eaten his fish and chips we brought on the way and was catching fish!

however i kept at it and eventually caught myself a poor cod

then after a short space of time i managed a pout!

(which i havent got the photo for at the moment because for some reason my mobile phone wont let me email this one)

then i had a huge thump and slack line!!! i wound down the rod struck and hit something heavy that didnt want to come the way i was pulling i heaved and ho'ed and got it 40-50 yards in when i hit a snag

i fought and tugged and couldnt budge it and eventually the line gave and i lost the lot..(maybe a codling? i will never know)

so before setting up again i thought i would wonder over and see what the man along from us was catching and he had a rockpool stuffed full of decent whiting they were all over 1lb some nearing 2lb i stood and watched for a while in awe as every cast he was pulling them in 2 at a time!

then decided maybe i should try switching from worm and crab to fish baits so whipped on a sandeel and flung it out and no sooner had the lead reached the bottom the rod tip was bouncing away and i caught a fair size whiting.

this went on for most the rest of the evening when eventually we decided to call it a night

i kept 3 big whiting for my lunch tomorrow the rest went back

planning a trip out again tomorrow night although the forecast isnt as nice so not sure as of yet where i will end up but 4 points on the board and heres hoping for more to come!!

Well done partner! Our first points of the year, hoping for a few hours at the sea or lake this weekend to add to them. Enjoy your tea!

Re: torbay 11/1/06

yup its all still calm here to kev.

im trying to work out which direction roughly you face when your on berry head it must be north?.. north east maybe? the wind is forecast southerly today and what little bit there is here seems to be from the south i think that will make it sheltered on berry head im gonna search for a online map that will give me a better idea!

Re: torbay 11/1/06

you are quite right dave it faces north-north east so ideal if the wind is southerly or even better, south westerly...

Re: torbay 11/1/06

well the wind should be southerly although looking at the clouds they suggest its more southwesterly than southerly i think if i can get the farmer to go then we will be down berry head from 6ish onwards! as we have seen decent fish come from there recently
