Burnham open match report 08-01-06

Hi everyone,

I fished the Weston outcasts open at Burnham yesterday.

We had a very good attendance considering the way the channel has been fishing, but we still had 18 weigh in.

1st place was won with 2 coddling, 1 whiting and a flounder.

Not huge fish but enough of them to secure the £250 prize money.

The heavest flounder pool of £164 went to a guy who I think came 4th overall.

All fish came from between the white lowerlight mark ( allendale road ) and the swimming pool.

I was stewarding down in front of the bayview cafe, to the left of the slipway, I seen 2 8 inch flounders and an 8 inch rockling caught by the anglers either side of me and I managed to miss a good thump on my rod as I was baiting up my 2nd trace.

Still I managed to pick up the no fish prize which paid for my entry fee.

All in all it was a good day, still plenty of small stuff about which is making things a bit harder.

The outcasts have another open in september at burnham lower light, should be loads of conger, dogs and thournbacks about which should provide a good bit of sport.

I will post more details nearer the date and try to get a poster online too.

Tight lines,

Mike

Question Re: Burnham open match report 08-01-06

Just wondering what the catch ratio was. How many people entered? been thinking about a trip to the Bristol channel for a while, but not sure if its worth it. Should I stick with the south coast?

I would stick to the south coast at the moment mate, the Bristol channel around burnham and clevedon is very patchy, Ive been having small coddling between 6 and 8 inches for a while now and we have loads of 6 inch rockling about.

We still have problems with sprats on our side of the channel apparently.

There were 81 fishing and 18 weighed in...
