portishead marina??

hello everybody.
new to this site, first post.been looking through all the posts and threads about the bristol chanel and severn estuary..very interesting reading.i have fished around this area for many years..with verying success..what im interested in is any up to date info about portishead docks..(or marina for you toffs)..fished in here as a kid when it was a commercial port used to catch some big flounder..my dad was a docker at avonmouth and would sometimes have to work over there. he would tell about the huge mullet in the docks,so know they are there..but can you fish there now..are there fish in there still..what speicies???also has anybody fished the lower reaches of the avon around the bridge as used to fish there too. only ever caught eels, but did here storys of cod and flatties being caught..any info would be much appreciated..

cheers

Thumbs up Re: portishead marina??

thanks for the kind welcome charter skipper.
i myself have caught cod, conger and bass, from around the bridges. ive fished this area for many years..since i was a kid and im in my mid thirties now.. was just wondering on some new, and not so new marks ie the marina at portishead and around the mouth of the river avon.someone out there must have thought about fishing there very deep on high tides..
went fishing this eve at new passage between two bridges.couple of bites but blanked saw kid lose fish.dont now what but seemed quite large.conger probably, as he was using fish bait..not quite enougth water 11.5m.wichi find is about lowest worthwhile to fish.here other than that conditions just becomeming ideal for the codling.winds are getting up and temputure dropping a bit..this weekend seems good bet but unfortunatly have to work..fish quite often so shall post my results over the next few months

Re: portishead marina??

Fished there once but blanked. However, I have been told it can throw up all sorts of fish as the boats bring them back to be weighed after competitions and then release them in the marina where they are virtually trapped except when the lock gates are open. Main species are thick lipped mullet, bass and flatties but there are also ray caught there quite regularly.

My report is here Portishead Report
