| Hi Guy's, We fished our club match yesterday at Beer in Lyme Bay. It was an early start as usual. I met my pal Barry for the trip down at 5.40am arrived beer at 8.00am but we stopped off for a early morning cuppa and bacon sarny It was a misty start to the day but that all cleared up by the time we had made the draw for the boats and boat positions. I drew No: 5 right hand side looking to the back of the boat. We stopped off to feather up some fresh macky and then we were off. Baits for the dy included...fresh macky, rag worm, peeler crab, Sandeel and the old faithful...squid. Rigs were secret pout and Bream / Wrasse rigs fished either as a flying collar or like a set of feathers paternoster style. No fish at the first mark so a move was made after 20 minutes. Mark number two was much much better on my first dropp down a triple shot of Pout to about 1.5lbs each.......3 points then all hell broke loose and pout after pout came over the gunnels. My tally was 17! The best tally of Pout fell to the opposition 38! phew. But I made up for the lack of numbers of Pout by concentrating on species At one point I could not get thorugh the Mackeral to get to the better fish below them, but after 10 minutes the shoal obliged and moved over. A few more fish and then it was off to the next mark....Black Bream..... Heres' the beautiful Male Cuckoo Wrasse... All fish except the Pout,(they blow their swim bladders) Black Bream and Pollack (now in my freezer) went back Well after a few more mackeral off the bottom I had a real rattle on the rod tip...unmistakeable a Bream bite...no strike just wind down to the fish and its on! A few minutes later and a plump Black Bream comes aboard. After that things went quiet no more Bream (I caught the only one on our boat) but a Pollock for me and a lovley little Dragonet. And here she is..... My match lasted until 4pm and back at the pub I learnt that I had come 3rd overall but out in front on the species with a creditable 7 species. So not a bad result..although a tangle that took 6-8 minutes to clear probably cost me the 5 points I was beaten by. But I was really pleased overall....and to cap it off the weather was absolutely superb... Last edited by Old Smoothound; 08-29-2005 at 07:04 PM. |
