Lyme Regis report

On sunday teignmouth sea angling society held a boat trip out of lyme regis on 'Predator', the main aim of the trip was to try and catch some bream along with some fair size cuckoo wrasse.

The morning started off quite bad, with managing to get to bed on sat night at 3.50 and the alrm beeping at 5. i was totally shattered but determined to make a nice day of it.

We left the harbour at 8, and was at the mark at 8.30 baited and ready for action. I was using a two hook paternoster size 2 and 1/0 hook, on my 15lb ugly stick. No sooner had i hit the bottom, up came two pout, followed by two more, and two more.

after half an hour fishing for pout!! the first few cuckoo wrasse came aboard along with my biggest pout of the day, as it was competition fishing i had to keep one of my fish to weigh in, but every other fish was returned.

As the tide slackened, the bream started to show, the biggest was caught right next to me using baited feathers and weighed just over 3lb, mine was only small but at least i caught one.

The day ended at 3.30 and not one drop to the bottom didnt produce a fish of some species, it was a great day and worth every penny, in the end the pout started to fight a bit better.

Re: Lyme Regis report

Well done Luke!
Interesting report!
I've decided to give you a hand with the second photo.
The fish is not very well visible in the shadow, so I made it more visible with the Photoshop. I hope you don't mind.
It's a nice looking fish!

Cool Re: Lyme Regis report

Sounds like you had a great day out Luke. Some nice fish, don't Cuckoo Wrasse look superb.

I'm out on Sunday from Beer in a boat comp so I hope the Pout holes are still full and the Bream are still around.
May even have a chance of a late Tope

Where there any Trigger fish caught in your comp?

Re: Lyme Regis report

No trigger fish were caught, last year we had a few john dorys, but to be honest i have never seen a trigger caught whilst i have been there.

Little hint for you that All the bream were caught on squid baits, they didnt want to know the crab worm or other fish baits.

Good Luck in beer on sunday

Re: Lyme Regis report

I thought they were both the same fish, looking back through the species hunt, all it looks like to me is that poor cod are baby pout or bibs like we call them.

Re: Lyme Regis report

I thought they were a cross between a pout and whiting, or pout and cod. I can't remember
