Minehead Report 7th Aug

I'm still too tired to write the report.......

Loads of little pollack up to 4 1/2lb and then got caught up in the traffic (coming from the Arsenal v Chelsea game at Cardiff) on to the M4. Nightmare

Imran's first wrecker, new PB and the biggest fish on the boat, which scooped him the pot, the jammy git.

Imran, please do a proper report, I don't have the will.

Re: Minehead Report 7th Aug

OK, Here goes...

Not a cloud could be seen in the sky as Andy and I left London for Minehead at 5:30am for a 9:00 start aboard Aly Kat.

The drive down was uneventful and we arrived 15 minutes early, to be greeted by the rest of the crew who had already started boarding.

Dave, our Skipper, briefly outlined the programme for the day (Pollack, maybe some Bass on the way back) and set off for the first of what seemed like over half a dozen wrecks. The first three or four produced zilch but Dave was quick to move on and appeared throughout the day to work hard to try to get us in to some fish.

Having drawn for positions. I got the stern, with Andy next to me on the port side....Needless to say, it would not be very long at all before Andy had foxed his way to his favourite position at the rear of the boat ;-)

Various shads were tried, but jelly worms and imitation sandeels were easily getting the most takes, with most anglers achieving half a dozen+ smallish pollack by the end of the day. One plate sized bass completed the tally and most fish were caught as the tide strengthened away from slack.

The weather remaind splendid throughout the day, the sea calm enough, and motoring out and back along the north Somerset/Devon coast at least made for an interesting diversion during the two hours it took to reach our furthest location (Almost Lundy Island!) of the day.

Even though small for a boat caught Pollack, with my 4lb + specimen I was well chuffed to beat my current PB (for a shore caught Bass of 3lb 12oz) and win the pot (which paid for petrol), but was even more pleased when I realised that this first time wrecker had outfished the forum boat fishing EX-champ (Hee hee)....

For those of a superstitious mind - could it have been a coincidence that this PB took place roughly opposite the shore mark where I had caught my previous PB almost a year earlier?!!

The journey back became a real pain due to the congested M4 and Andy's snoring, and staying awake required a double expresso immediately followed by a red Bull at one point, but otherwise the day was really enjoyable.

Now I need to go back to sleep again.

Imran
