Had permission from her indoors to fish Saturday down in Exmouth out on our boat with my old man. Got up early Sat and were fishing by 10. 30 on Saturday off the point at Sandy Bay. Well to cut a long story short we tried everything and went to Budleigh and Ottermouth, and then back to the estuary by Sandy Bay. In all we had no bites and stranger still loads of other boats around had bugger as well - not even the makeral !! Trawlers have been active for 2 weeks in these areas for the cuttle fish so maybe they have swiped a load of other fish or possibly the Easterly winds all week have driven the shoals out deeper ? Either way it was a major dissappointment although the old man saved the day when he eventually managed a doggie at the end - very weird place to catch one of them as well............. Spoke to my old dear today and theyve been out today and the makeral have returned after a couple of calm days - they caught 16 today of which 10 went back. Just one of those days I guess but it was the first boat blank in many years - lets hope for better luck next time eh !!!! __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up !

Re: Major Dissappointment !! Never mind mate, at least your narrowing the areas to fish down. Means when I come out with you next time you can take me somewhere where the fish are. And I suppose being out on the boat was better than being dressed up as Fred from Scooby-Doo!! __________________ Shads

Better luck next time Tommy. The wind direction and size of tides has a lot to do with it. If the wind is off blowing shore and the tides are neaps then it does not bode well for Mackeral fishing Part of the fishing fun is watercraft...picking the right tides and venue to suit the tides is key I might try over in Wales one night ![]()
