Watergate Bay holiday

Hi Guys,

Got back from my hols in watergate Bay. Not a lot to report really. 1 broken rod, and dented pride! I did get out on the second day for an hour or two, took a salt spin rod so I could try a plug, or lob a bit of crab out with a small lead if needed. Went out to the right hand side on the rocks (advice from the local tackle shop). It was windy, very windy! (read near gale force!) But as I was there it would be rude not to try, so hoping the rocks would provide a little shelter I cast a big plug out alongside the rocks, whack! a schoolie of about 1 1/2lb, me thinks this is going to be easy! Next cast straight into the rocks and snagged! B*gger! managed to get it free, and thought it might be wise to try a small lead and a bit of bait into the surf. Rocks were awash with mussels, so I whipped a few on a size 2/0 with some crab and lobbed it out about 30 yards. Current dragged it straight into the rocks and snagged again. This is getting a bit of pain (or words to the same effect) Snapped off, decided to try a bit further over the rocks to see if I could get out of the wind. Thats when it went horribly wrong. The rocks were like greased glass. One fall later, 1 Broken rod (at least it sort of broke my fall! Mattress would have been better!!!) I headed back to lick my wounds.
Tried a few of the smaller rocky bays in the week using a plug / dexter but with only a travel spin rod, it was never going to happen.
Last attempt was Padstow, the estuary as it leads out to sea. My good lady decided to come with me and read her book whilst I tried a a two hook flapper into the estuary. I have never seen so much silky weed, wound in about 5lb a time! The place is beautiful though, I really like Cornwall! I will be back a bit better prepared, and hopefully without so much wind.

Steve
