a days fishing!!

Hi guys we are off out on scoobydootoo again tomorrow 11 till 7 , we got 5lb of fresh black lug ordered so hopefully gonna do some cod bashing!!!!, ill fill you all in on the details tomorrow ..cheers!!!!!!!

You might wanna get a cuppa!!!!!!
What an absolutely stunning drop of weather ... we get to watchet at 10 am and the sea is a millpond 4-5 mph easterly .. we wander over to the tackle shop and pick up our 4 n half pound of fresh lug for the 8hrs ahead of us........and in a rather lively lightheaded move decide its time to convert from good old mono to braid !!!!!.... and maybe update my old multiplier........... after looking thru the collection of multipliers on offer , a rather stunning looking daiwa saltist catches my eye!!!, after some consultation of funds (not the other half) i decide to treat myself....... OOPS ...... YAY.

After some stick from the lads walking back to the car i start to think maybe im bonkers!!!, but hell its about time i updated my old £20 multiplier thats served me so well its that old i cant remember what make used to be on the faded paintwork!!

We get out on scoobydootoo and steve tells us how poor the fishings been!!!!! the last 2 8hr trips he,s done!!! great , really needed to hear that!!!, but armed with a boat load of bait we head out to our first mark just off of dunster beach... first drop and one of the lads whos uptiding instantly hooks into a small codling of about half a lb ... things are looking promising!!!!, one of the other guys whos also uptiding, hooks an almost identical fish!!!, come on cod ...... then it all goes quiet .... not even a knock!!!!!.

After an hour ish , one of the boys gets a good knock and up comes a nice cod of about 5lb , then a few of the boys start getting knocks here n there.... the doggys show up!!!, not ideal but at least it gave everyone some fun for 20 minutes about 9 dogs come in biggest about 2lb,then just before we move another cod comes in about 4lb

With the tide fast heading towards slack water we head out further into the channel for spur dogs n conger we settle into about 70 feet of water n almost instantly one of the lads hooks into a conger of about 10lb , and then another turns up slightly smaller. then one of the guys hooks into a lovely thorny of about 7lb , one of the guys loses a small spur right on the surface of about 2lb ish.
Fishings pretty steady with a bite every quarter of an hour or so mainly strap conger and doggys, but all very small.
With the tide picking up we head to shallower water and back on the reef looking for the cod, the sunset is beautiful and unspoilt especially as my rod seems to have gone very static just recenty, the skipper makes us our 5th cuppa of the day and just as im about to take a slurp my ugly stick takes a huge knock , i dip into it and a nice conger comes in of about 15lb..... grrr thought it was a cod . theres steady action around the boat mainly dog fish , then just as im finishing my cuppa my rod starts rattling away i pitch into it and this feels very different almost coddy!!!!, im pretty sure its a cod and all the boys are cheering on a conger!!!, it brakes the surface with a big open mouth ..... ideal i christen my saltist with a nice cod just over 7lb happy days .

All in all a great trip out and steve the skipper let us stay out an extra hour as the weather and evening was so nice!!!!, not many skippers ll do that!!!, i reckon all in all we had about 20 -30 doggies 7 codling about 10 conger 1 thornback 1 whiting 1 spur (nearly), quality day out!!!!!!! bait was lug, mackerel ,dirty squid ,
