| Chesil Plaice report 13-14/3/11 Myself and Roger (Chesil Chucker) headed off to Cogden on Sunday to try and bag ourselves a Plaice. Weather was lovely with a NW force 3 coming over our right shoulders. Water was slightly milky but calm. Reports from those around us were of mainly dogfish (yes in daylight) and a few small Plaice. Basically we fished all afternoon and ended up with nothing, whilst those around us were catching. I think that if that happens again, I will move position. Though to be honest my casting was pretty pants and I was not even getting over the 100yd barrier for some reason. I had some worms left from Sunday, so on Monday afternoon I went down to West Bexington and headed left. Wind had shifted to the SE but was still fairly calm. First cast I managed to blast it right out and the same with the second rod. After 10 minutes I noticed a little rattle on the tip and brought in my first Plaice of the year:  Closely followed by 2 more. Nothing great in size with the biggest being 1lb. But boy was I happy. Bait was smelly frozen Black for one of them and the other 2 I had on Ragworm. Headed home after a couple of hours and met a couple of guys in the car park. They had managed 8 Plaice between them. They showed me the biggest they had caught. It was a monster. It is the biggest Plaice I have ever seen from the shore, and quite possibly from the boat as well. It weighed in at just under 4lb and it was very thin. It's tail was bigger than my hand fully spread out. I asked if I could take a pic of it but they were not keen on that. They claimed to have caught it on lugworm only 29yds out, but I really have my doubts as to that claim. Everything that has been coming out has been at range.
