| Re: Watchet Scoobydootoo Hi guys sorry on the late report, but this week has been madness!!. We got out with steve on scoobydootoo on tuesday the weather was beautiful and the sea was a mill pond , we had frozen lugg some dirty squid mackerel and some sprat , unfortunately finding somewhere that had fresh lugg proved to be like looking for hens teeth. We set out for the reef where the cod had been showing which was only a few minutes steam and we were soon fishing , most of the guys were just using standard down tide rigs and one lad was uptiding as well , the first hour was very slow, with only a couple of vague bites, producing no fish , we moved along to another mark on the reef nearer blue anchor , i decided BIG baits were the way forward and was using black lugg and nearly a whole squid on a pennel rig, almost straight away one of the guys hooked into a cracking cod of about 5lb he was real short stocky fish. things were looking up!!, then one of the guys lost a fish after a couple of turns on the reel , Eagerly waiting for a nod on the ugly stick in the beautiful sunshine everybody seemed to be getting knocks ...... apart from me!!!! grrr. Under these situations theres only 1 thing you can do!!! , bust out the sandwiches !!!!, always provides some nodding action!!!!... and sure enough half way through my sandwich.. slackline ..... hmmmm a couple of turns of the reel and bang im into a fish ... good ol sandwich!!. .a nice little codling about 2 n a half lbs, a few small codling show up but there older bigger tastier relatives become rather shy, a few doggies turn up , then all goes quiet. After a while steve suggests we ship out and try n find if theres some early spur dogs about in deeper water, we steam out and its all fairly quiet with a few whiting showing up and a little thornback about 3lb.Then one of the guys hooks into a better fish which baffles everyone by the way its resisting his attentions and it turns out to be a beauty of a blonde ray just over 9lb. with time running out one of the guys runs into a little bootlace , and a few codling under a lb .. Overall not a great day cod hunting , but didnt blank !! , the weather was beautiful .... and any day spent fishing has to be a million times better than a day spent working!.......... at the end of the month im off to tenerife , hopefully gonna get out on crested wave for a days sport!!! ill fill you all in when i return cheers |

| Re: Watchet Scoobydootoo Just thinking back it was the summer of 2002/2003. We chartered the boat to sail to Lundy for a stag do and to do a bit of feathering en route. A very memorable trip for it's beauty, goats pies in the Marisco Tavern and getting kicked by wild horses whilst trying to stage a game of cricket on the landing strip. __________________ 2012: None Lifetime: Codling, Grey Gurnard, Mackerel, Pollock, Pouting, Wrasse, Scad. |
