| Oberon nov 20th Having thawed out and found the use in my toes i can sit back now and talk about the "blank" i had above the newly seabourne OBERONE. Our trip to Gosport was a first for us from Warminster, myself , my dad , Ben Burville and Hernrique Da Silva- and were enlightened by the dubai like tower sitting above the skyline blinking away its its illumanating colours. We were also joined by a trio from Southampton Kevinhussar, darren and new comer Adam. But was missing Scubbadogg , but with just seven , it gave us loads of room to play with and limited tangles. What was supposed to be a Gale 4 eneded up being the top end of Gale 6, and after a hr at our first mark. Skipper Ray and Crewman John Marsall moved us back into more calmer waters. like many other boats that were out we all huddled together in . It was very quiet, very little action, but the bacon sandwichs took your mind off the weather and the blanking. After moving to our second mark. it was still nothing but weed. think brown string weed after about 3 hrs, the small channell whiting started to appear, the odd small pouting and the occasionally Doggie. With half the crew still fishing big baits for cod. the other started going to small baits with the frozen Mackerel i kept from the last trip, but whatever i tried i could not get that fish on my line, tried different rigs and bait presenatation-Again round about 12 o clock it was burger with onion and mushrooms, A dISTRACTING smell doused any frustrations i was boiling up. One by one the otheres managed to bring in the fish, But it was Portugese Da Silva who was having the better day with Ten Whiting of meduim size. At least six off them got another one for thier species count. The afternoon was filled with a a nice hot hotdog and gave me that final lift for the last final hours but i was forced to utter defeat and my first Blank-. Final catch for all 14 whiting - 4 doggies -5 pouting- weed. Our hosts John and Ray were outstanding in all qtrs, they looked after us well, kept us informed of everything they were doing, experiance and skills were shared, they definaly kept us watered and fed with some first class food. a first class toilet facility, a area to sit and keep warm. the only thing they could not Guarantee is the that big illusive COD. I be booking again, but recommend them to anyone- they do not go by a time limit- if your fishing well their stay and fish - if your not they try and make it a interesting day anyway. I blanked- but i would blank again just for the experiance. jeff |
