welshicons weymouth trip aug 28th

This trip would have been a total disaster if the the skipper and Welshicon had not worked together regarding filling the boat welshicon had chartered . but in the end a party of 11 set out for random fishing off portland bill.
After a rainy start to the week the weather had cleared up enough for the sun to break through, but the bad weather had dirtied the water and there was a constant chilling wind that kept the bpat bobbling up and down in the swell of the waves and the cross tides.

With very few mackerel being caught it was case of using the calamari worms and welshicons squid head and tails marinated in a red paprika dye which noone else wanted to use and it was no surprise that he had a blank untill he changed to ragworm and caught his one and only fish(pouting) for the day, tho some lucky brill and turbot were stripping the mackeral bait of his hook in ther shambles.

The rest of the boat bar, simon parry , who had his first blank session , were catching the usual Pouting bullhuss, smoothhound, bream, gurnard and towards the end of the day were pulling in Brill and Turbot-

4 bullhuss - 1 tope - 12 bream - 8 pouting - 8 mackeral - 2 dogfish - 3 Brill - 3 tURBOT- 1 GURNARD - I POLLOCK - 1 HORSE MACKEREL -.
It was good to share this trip with members from this site - kevinhussar ( and his brother in law) and devonutopia(jason), and 5 other local weymouth lads who made up the charter.

A drink with the skipper afterwards in the Sailers Return capped a goods day fishing. and theres already a trip booked again for september 18th and October 23rd(provisionly)

Nice one welshicon. How big were the Turbot / Brill & which boat did you go out on? I'd like to get my boat back down to Weymouh, but can't go too far from home as my Dads very ill..

Re: welshicons weymouth trip aug 28th

Firstly its nice to be able to fish with people you know, but this trip we made some new friends who look to tag along in next two trips- so weather i fill the boat with people from work- people from this site - and maybe who the skipper can add i can continue to charter a full boat every month. September looks to be already filled 8 from warminster - 3-4 from this trip who enjoyed the company and fishing. for some it was a day off adding to thier species- others there first experiance at boat fishing- for me it was a day to dry my marinated bait which raised a few laughs- and i get to do the my dad and son bit.

regards to trips after september i thinking off making a pool of fishermen who prepared to hand me £25 deposit , and once i get say ten- 13 deposits i can then arrange a date a month ahead so people can sort out that day free. and then paying the balance on the day, and if this trip is cancelled the deposit is already paid for a arranged date- plus i like to arrange the following months trip on the same day(this would however require these on board to pay £25 also, and if those who paid but could not make it would not lose this deposit as this would be fowarded onto the next trip, while i find replacements. it all sounds complicated but everything seems to fall into place when the day comes!!!. i will always get a couple of reserves paid up to, so whoever does not go will have paid for the following trip.. but this all goes on trusting me !!!

We have caught at least 20 different species in three trips off jeff clarkes Duchess 2, and the BRILL and Turbot were between 4-7 and biggest bream was just over the 4 mark.

As to beach fishing- i have just acquired some beach casting kit and theres about three of us who would like to come down to chesil and try our hand to it(its a lot cheaper that boat fishing) but can only fish saturdays !!!!

Re: welshicons weymouth trip aug 28th

If your serious about baot fishing(they supply rod and reel free on chartered trips- and if u go as a indivual they charge £5 hire fee plus £4 for all replayment rigs lost. a bit expemsive if ur a seriel loser lol. i intend to get my own stuff and get some bulk rigs made up for all to share- these rigs will be paid for with the trip money- bait is also paid for. reference to parking if u drive all day permit from skipper is £6.60

like i said i am waiting on first refusals for the next two trips- but if deposits come in for these trips- then of course i will have to honour them. every trip is limited to 12 people- but depending on what trip and price (ranges from 8hr trips £45 (8-4) £55 (8-5.30) anything over this a price is agreed by me and the skipper.

If you find out about the beach casting trips for chesil and give me maybe 0ne-two weeks notice i be happy to come down.

september saturday 18th

8 spaces taken already
waiting on 4 replies this week
need at least 2 reserves who may want to be on stand by

weymouth wrecking trip
8-5.30
cost £55
includes space-rod and reel hire - bait
(losing rigs cost will be paid by you) as fishing wrecks has a 70% of snagging!!!

october saturday 23rd(proposed)

depending on how september goes may be another wrecking trip/ or fishing the shambles 8/9.5 hr day
cost £45-£50
5 spaces taken
7 available
i will need deposits in before september 18th so can secure date on the day
