Devon border on the way to Cornwall mate .. im sure i drive through it any way

As far as locations go your pretty much spoiled for choice and it all boils down to how far you wanna travel - north Devon - great fishing - south devon - great fishing , plus dorset , north Somerset..........

Re: newbie to the area

your not kidding mate 447 miles to be precise, dont do things in halfs ,doi gather pretty much anywhere along the coastline is good fishing? ive noticed theres not many piers? ive also been told not to expect too many cod down here which i find a little strange, would that info be right? looking forward to catching my first bass, pollock and wrasse which ive heard are quite popular down here.

thanks for the replies fellas hope to see you out with tight lines at some point

We dont get the run of red cod and pollack and coalies that are caught up north but there are still some lunkers 20lb plus to be had in the Bristol Channel (plus loads of smaller fish that feed on the shrimp beds from october ) and anywhere along the solent in the winter ...
Pollack grow to huge sizes down here as do the ballan wrasse and everyones favourite the bass - which are present almost all year round now !
charter fishing is without doubt the best in the UK by a mile and you wont find better shore fishing either

Re: newbie to the area

Hello mate.

Whilst being a little way from the coast, you're actually in quite a good spot as you've got a massive range of coast line within a short drive from Okey. I only really know about East devon and west Dorset in any great detail, with a smattering of North devon and the Bristol Channel thrown in, but you could quite comfortably do South Devon and North Cornwall as well.

I you're after Bass and Wrasse I'd start looking towards North Devon. Illfracombe Barnstable sort of way. I've fished Ilfracombe peir a couple of time and it's quite comfortable, but I understand the rock marks can be more productive.

Over this way there's Branscombe, Seaton and further South places like Teignmouth, Dartmouth and Brixham have decent potential.

Have a dig in the forum, there's plenty of good info to be had with the search. Any more specific question, give us a shout.
