| Re: newbie to the area HI mate Okehampton eh, not too far away. Regarding local fishing spots. We are really spoilt for choice down here. I mainly fish on the south coast, between Lantic Bay and Chesil Beach. Assuming you have transport some of the best spots are as follows: Rames Head, Torpoint area, free car park at the top of the hill, 20 min walk to rocks. Best bait soft crab, live/fresh sandeel or squid/rag cocktail. Likely to catch pollack, Wrasse, Doggies and Bass with the odd conger after dark on bigger baits. NOss Mayo. Another very rocky mark. However lots of Wrasse, pollack and doggies. Occasional Bass. If you are tempted to go further, Hopes Nose in Torbay is very good. 4 main areas to fish from, 3 are very rocky again. Quite a trek to get there but fishing wise most species are there. An early morning on incoming tide will get a large bag of Mackies from the left side. The other parts are good for wrasse, pollack, doggies and, dependent on casting distance Cod and Bass. Seaton Beach in Cornwall, 10 miles passed Torpoint, nice beach, car park at top of beach. Again Bass, mackerel, with the occasional ray. For a peaceful session, i.e overnighter with few, if any others about. Lantic Bay is the place. National trust Carpark at the top, free parking. However, the walk to get there is about 30 mins there and 45 back up the steep hill. Once there, the bay is fantastic. Very few snags in the middle but rocky outcrops on both sides. Good place for Bass, mackerel, pouting, and POllack. Tight lines, Am venturing to Rames Head on Friday night (3/9) for the incoming tide, outgoing tide and some of the next incoming. Will post report once I get back. |
