Good haul off Slapton

and I think I put back at least the same again if not more! (careful to not touch them in the process)

Good haul had from just outside Torcross, and one was an absolute peach (next to my knife)

Re: Good haul off Slapton

I need to figure out a way to get lures that joeys will not go for. Just something the big ones might fancy a go at. The lures used here had 2/0 hooks in them. I think I need lures with 4/0 hooks to perhaps prevent joeys having a go - Also might need actual bigger lures like large Eddystone eels or similar.

Its easy Jason... just wait 2 months till they put on weight - its impossible to target just the big fish in a shoal of tens of thousands !
August/September time and they are generally all biggies

Re: Good haul off Slapton

I might start thinking about using a bigger single lure rather than a string of 4 little ones.

The trouble I find with the bigger single lures is you can't get much distance unless you attach a weight by the nose, which isn't ideal.

Filleted, then marinated in chilli, spring onion and red pepper , ginger beer or fresh ginger if you prefer and a little oil.
Fried for a couple of minutes skin side town - then take out the pan .
Chuck in the marinade and a packet of fresh egg noodles...warm through for 3 or 4 minutes then pour into a bowl..whack the mackerel on top and hey presto chinese/scottish style McMackerel

Im big into my bbq'ing and im dying to try some sort of fish on it. I seen gutted whole mackerel that im sure would work, but at the same time i couldnt be bothered with the bones!

tesco fish aint that great mate...mackerel gutted, slice of lemon and a knob of butter in the cavity , wrapped in foil then bbq'd - delicious mate
Black bream is another really tasty fish for the barbie - marinate like i do the other recipe - wrap in foil and cook ..then pour a little marinade over the fish .

Good thing with mackerel are the bones are only little and when cooked you can normally pull all the "shoulder " meat of the fish without many bones at all
