Black bream is another really tasty fish for the barbie - marinate like i do the other recipe - wrap in foil and cook ..then pour a little marinade over the fish .

Good thing with mackerel are the bones are only little and when cooked you can normally pull all the "shoulder " meat of the fish without many bones at all
I'll deffo give that one a go mate cheers! Just hope the weather holds up. Im a big fan of garlic, would garlic butter work? or would it not go with the flavour of the macks do u think?

Re: Good haul off Slapton

I will probably just wrap mine in foil with some lemon juice and a little oil, and just oven cook.

What I do like doing is once the cooked fish is cold, pick off the meat and with some prawns/veg & soft mash, makes a delicious fish pie - hopefully boneless too depending on how accurately you pick clean the mackerel.

I wonder would it work the same without lemon? Dont really like it!

Think i'll just try it with a big of garlic butter, salt pepper and some herbs!

I love garlic butter mate but dont think it goes too well with oily fish like mackerel and herring.. a few cloves in the marinade would be a good addition but not on the barbie

if you really want to go to town i have a recipe for mackerel pate here

its well tasty on crusty bread and lasts for ages- or atleast it would if i didnt have a greedy missus

Re: Good haul off Slapton

I have still yet to catch a bass I am able to eat.

I must try different setups / locations at some point. What I really want is a kayak and to be able to get right above the best marks and pull my sinking rapala behind me.

Re: Good haul off Slapton

Hi guys. I am an amatuer sea fisherman with a bit of experience of catching Mackeral off Beesands and Slapton. I will be in ingsbridge on holiday for the next couple of weeks after Saturday. I will have the family with me so i will only be able to get a couple of hours here and there.

Are the Mackeral in at Beesands/Slapton?

Any advice on a quick dabble anywhere local with very simple kit and rigs?

Thanks for you advice

Re: Good haul off Slapton

Did you mean Kingsbridge?

I assume the fish are still in Slapton although obviously it was 2 weeks ago when I went - things can change. Not sure on tackle shops in K/B, but if there isn't one, I would be surprised. Try Yell.com search.

Re: Good haul off Slapton

I did mean Kingsbridge. Damn sausage fingers. There is a takle shop on the way there where i can get pretty much everything i need. I think it is called Devon Angling Centre.

How close to the high tides were you there? is it worth going at any time?

How about other types of fish? mackeral get a bit boring.

Thanks for your reply
