Cool Bristol Channel Codding last ight

Hi fellas,

Meant to post this earlier on today but after last nights Cod session was too Nackered and have been shooting since early doors.

But went to my favourite mark last night and high tide was at 10.40pm, so left home at 7.45 and was fishing at 8.45pm, but had to walk over 1000 yards to get to it But it was worth it.

Fished two rods and one in reserve, bait for the night was fresh black lug and yellow tails. Black lug was gutted.

Fished a pennel pulley at 90 yards and a 2 up one down Channel special close in cirda 30 yards. First "knock" on the rod at 9.15pm struck missed it...probaly a mini Codling i thought.

Next bite 9.30 the magical 1 hour before high...rod really rattled lead broken free...must be a good fish.....nice little Coding circa 2lbs comes onto the bank...piccie taken for the album...she's put back to fight another day.

9.45pm still on the gutted fresh black lug...not a sniff on the yellow tails fishing at range??? Then one good rattle of the rod the lead breaks out and i'm out of the chair winding down and i have struck and Bingo! I could feel it could be a reasonable fish...the rod tops nodding back at me...its raining now... heart pumping.... How big is it i'm thinking..... the tide is running so it puts a bit of pressure on the fish... now it breaks the surface in front of me and the headlamp lights up a nice Cod.

I get her onto the bank...even after all these years of fishing... my adrenalin rush is still the same.... maybe thats why I still love it!

Despatched the Cod for the freezer am now fumbling for the camera take a piccie and get back to fishing.

Next bite came right on high water again on the close in rod 2 up one down Channel special. Hit into it wind in and a mini Codling of 8" hits the muddy deck. No piccie this time toooo embaressing, so slip her back to come back next year as a 2-3lber.

I gutted the Cod on the bank and in its stomach it had 8 crabs!!

All in all a good nights fishing. Looking forward to the next!

Cheers Dave,

Burnham is good best 2 hours up and 2 hours down, fishing over sand and mud. Codling, Flounder, Whiting not a bad place to fish as you can fish from the sea wall or into the river further up.

Maybe one day mate.........to be continued.

Depends when and what you are after Gully...This time of year anywhere from Sand Point to Old Severn Bridge.

Good spots Ladye Bay, Severn Beach, New Passage, Rockingham, Codling may stay around a bit longer but we are on the tail end of them now. We will move into the twilight zone in February then its really hard.
