Poor at porlock weir

as stated baggie and myself had a big pass

plans were either clovelly way or up the channel

unfortunatyely poxy work for rich ment a slightly later getaway so it was up the channel to a new mark.. Porlock weir
hunting anything but a coddling or early ray for the hunt would have been good

took forever to get too due to devons useless road network and paid the fiver for the carpark

met a couple of guys leaving who had had a few rockling and advised snaggy unless fish near pill box so guess what we headed over to the mark near the pill box
we were a couple of hours into the flood wityh high at 8.30 ish on a fair high spring , by the end we were fishing from the top of the bank

realiseing then how close we were to our least fave venue Bossington( its the shore behind the rocks)

fishing 1 rod big baits ( sprats or squid) other small hooks and worm soon there were tell tale bites for both of us

with me getting first blood with this fine ......dogfish( only one i will photo this year as worth points)

then a good crackoff as recast as wound so fast on retrieve to avoid snags i left no tension on reel ( set no 1 gone)

soon though i had had 2 more dogs and we were praying things would get better, but it just went downhill, we were getting rattles but not connecting, baggie was haveing a ]mare and loseing loads of gear and was definately not happy

the tide changed and i stared loseing gear as well so at 10.30 we called time, total result 3 dogs, 11 sets of gear lost between us ( even with rottens on)
weather had been kind to us and is not too bad a venue but maybe not for a wee while again though, and as ever good to try new venues

an intreresting cross sountry journey home as well

still you have to be in it to win it, and we did get the dogfish out the way

now do i dare a dangle tonight as well

dave

Re: Poor at porlock weir

Good effort guys..not sure if it would have helped at that venue ( one i've quite fancied visiting ) but have you tried using lead lifts or were you getting stuck fast on summit else ?
would like to see it at low tide to see what crud is out there...

Re: Poor at porlock weir

What a nightmare.

I lost so much lead it's untrue. Snagging up on the bottom, even the rotten bottom weak link weren't helping. I must have lost 5 sets in the first 10 casts. Ended up losing 8 sets in the end. To add insult to injury, 6 hours of fishing produced absolutely nothing for me. Loads of bites, but either couldn't connect with them (Even tried size 4 hooks in the end) or there'd be a fish on but I'd snag up immediately.

Ah well, that's fishing. You've just gotta keep your head down and get on with it sometimes. Nice to fish a new veune though.
