Re: Greysands winter sesh Blimey that was an eventful night. Spent an hour trudging around the burrows through the snow and ice. Finally found the mark but was so cold the crab had frozen and my mate had started to moan. Had a few bites but didnt connect with anything. Nearly jumped out my skin, turned to see my mate scrabbling about in the water, splashing and screaming like a girl. I just though he had slipped in, as its not deep I offered moral support ..... I laughed my arse off. He trudged over looking gutted. Turns out he had bought his line in and a bass had followed it and jumped clean out onto the pebbles. He had dived on it but it slipped from his grip and he ended up in the water trying to grab it. Sounded pretty dodgy until he showed me the scales on his gloves and cut from the bass dorsal spines. Poor guy said it was around the 5 pound mark. Had a few more bites and a 1 pound codling, unfortunately nothing else jumped out for us so we trudged back home. Not gonna forget that one for a while. Anyone else had any similarly bizarre sessions. If I hadnt seen it wouldnt have believed it !!!

Re: Greysands winter sesh Sounded good craic. Wee tip stevo with crab before you go out fishing saves time which= fishing time. Prepare crab before you leave and only take what you need and not every crab in the bucket, and put rest in fridge in seaweed in a container. I think richard did an excellant post on preparing crab before putting on the hook, saves me time going over it again. Anyway stevo once crab has been prepared cut it in half and dont put it on hook for now what i want you to do is rap about 6-8 turns off bait elastic like a sausage to each section, now you have two prepared baits and you can do this in the heat at home before you leave to go fishing. Prepare only a few crab, ask yourself how long are you going fishing for 1 hour 3 hours etc. Remember to get the best from your crab give them a good drink of fresh water 2 hours before you prepare them and they will become prime crab ooooozing scent. You brave soul ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Greysands winter sesh Good advice chucked the left over crab in the freezer so it don't go to waste. Was thinking all i need is a net to catch them in if my mate can tease them straight out the water ! !

Re: Greysands winter sesh Stevo are they peelers mate ie crabs that become peelers. If so i hope you took the lungs out before you freezed them or they when defrosted they are useless mate, also the legs and claws are great for freezing and as bait as well as the body of the crab, bin the rest. Frozen peeler is very good bait in the summer. Anglers who dont know stevo buy frozen crab that were not peelers when packet and frozen and then blame the crab when they dont catch. I hope this helps mate. Tight lines.
