Relatively productive day on the open sea! One thing I didn't like was being in a 25 foot little yacht in a force 4 sea. Was a wee bit choppy and I still have my "sea legs" now... ![]() Anyway - the fishing. Not that much was done, probably about 4 hours in total with the most productive period being when we were 2 miles out from the respective dawlish/Budleigh coasts, and drifted back slowly toward Budleigh. Here's some pics. Mate's terrier came on board ![]() Was a bit DANK to start with - nearly packed it in early! ![]() ![]() But then, thankfully the sun came out and I ended up getting burnt! ![]() ![]() Caught a gurnard for the first time this year. Chucked it back of course. ![]() And my finest catches, two pollack which came up on the SAME set of lures at the same time. hehe! Shame it never repeated itself. This bigger pollack is already in my belly! Some specimen mackerel came up, and many went back as deemed a bit small. Fork is there for an idea of size. I think about 2lb, no more, for the bigger one. Fleshy though, and very tasty. ![]() __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!

Re: Relatively productive day on the open sea! Makes me wish I had my own boat. It's a lot easier than shore fishing, just the practical and expensive side of owning and running a boat. I wouldn't have a yacht that's for sure! Need a little Orkney thing with a big outboard, but then that would cost SO much. __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!

Re: Relatively productive day on the open sea! Well done Jason. Sounds like a good day out. ![]() I'm gonna have to take to the seas myself next week. I need to get some mackerel for the freezer and I really don't think they'll be within casting distance again this year, so it's a tourist special for me then! How's it go???? Ground bait for a bit, fish for a bit, ground bait for a bit, fish for a bit...... ![]() __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen. Check. Bait…… BAIT! Sh*t, where’s the bait?

Re: Relatively productive day on the open sea! Nah - I have reasonable sea legs and as long as I am up on deck and can see the horizon I am ok. ![]() The real pain was the lack of room as the yacht seats about 4, maybe 6 and there was 2 of us, the mutt, and all the tackle. And it always felt like it got choppier when you were fighting a fish (because you had to let go of the rail ) __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!
