Minehead 21/7/09 Managed to beat the wind gods and get afloat with Steve Webber on Osprey again, although the rain gods seemed intent on giving us a good soaking - couldn't stop in Porlock bay due to the breeze coming down through Porlock vale making quite a nasty chop on the water - first stop was just down below porlock to try for Smoothies - no luck with them here but plenty of PC's and Pout so decided to move further down the coast towards the Foreland - as we were under steam to this mark the skipper mentioned that we hadn't had any Dogfish at the first mark - yep - you can guess what turned up at the second mark - mind you there were a few Smoothhounds coming in aswell so we tolerated the doggies for a while before moving inshore a bit to try for the Bream - not to be on these aswell - Pout and poor cod were snaffeling the baits as soon as they hit the bottom - we then gave up on trying to get a Bream and went to a mark up channel to try for Triggers and they weren't at home or didn't want to come out to play - had 3 new lads onboard from the Hydrographic office in Taunton - Doug Jeffries, Mark and Yogi - think they enjoyed the day as they are coming out again next month - congrats to Mark on his first Smoothhound - it was good to meet you lads. Didn't get our Bream but we caught a fair few bits and bobs and had a good day - saw some Porpoises down under the Foreland and watched the young Peregrines chasing each other around the cliffs - so not the worst day in the world. We caught Poor Cod, Pouting, LSD's, Smoothhounds, Pollack, Wrasse, Bullhuss and Conger.

Re: Minehead 21/7/09 sounds like a good day considering the weather we have been having, steve is a quality skipper and if i ever get the chance out of minehead , he is the only skipper i would go with as he works hard to find the fish unlike a few others in the harbour!!!

Re: Minehead 21/7/09 Have been out with Steve every month for quite a few years now and have always found him to be a fair and reliable skipper that will indeed work hard to find you some fish - on this trip we didn't find the bream on the mark he'd anchored so he moved the boat 40 yards outside of where we were - not many skippers would be bothered to do that - top class man all round.
