having had rain all day and all night i didnt even think about what may have and had been stirred up at budleigh salterton, got there at 10am today went to the right and down the steps as advised....?a joke given the number of completely naked men laid baking in what was turning into quite a sunny day, hoped(wrongly)that the murky water unusual at budleigh would prove to make for some good fishing,tried my new dexter lure for half hour first,not entirely sure if i was doing it right?casting it out 80 yards and sowly reeling it in?then went onto using rag , followed by different combinations of fresh rag and dried sand eel....something kept appearing to eat at the sand eel, but 2oclock came and my forth ever shore fishing adventure proved a blank??? what am i doing wrong

Unlucky mate. Keep going, the blanks will end soon. You might have a better chance if you fished evening into the dark or first light. I've never really heard of many decent fish during daylight hours..

a) There's a nudist beach to the right (west) of the Steps. Hence, naked men.

b) I've found Budleigh a complete waste of time in daylight. Although, it should probably have helped if it was stirred up and coloured.

c) Caught my first makies on Dexter wedge recently. Cast out then bring it back in feathering style. i.e. bring rod back, then wind up the slack, bring rod back, wind up slack etc etc. Doesn't always work. Even when other people were catching makies on feathers next to me I couldn't get a take. It all depends how close they're coming in etc. Should pick up bass too (if they're there...........)
