Smooth Hounds, Help needed!

Hi, I live in Torbay and I'm looking for a smooth hound mark in my local area! I know Hopes Nose and Ness Beach have produced a few in the past but are there any other marks I should try?

Any help on marks and tactics would be most welcome, thanks in advance.

Re: Smooth Hounds, Help needed!

Sorry Spur, don't really know of marks down your way but Seaton/Branscombe/Seatown can produce if you're willing to travel East. Of course the North coast can thrown up the bigger hounds, but to be honest I've never fished for them up that way either!!

As far as tactics go, I've found that fresh crab on a 3/0 pulley pennel, banged out as far as my pityfull casting skills will allow can work. Some use a longer up and over. Personal taste I think. I've also found that the hounds will hunt in packs. Where there's one, there'll normally be more, giving frantic sport for 3/4 hour before going quiet. Remember to set your drag and don't wander too far from your rods. These fish go quite well and can take your rod if you give them chance.
